Hillsborough County Trauma Center Information

Unless you’ve been injured in a serious accident at some point, you may not have been aware that there’s a level of care for patients that goes beyond Emergency Room capabilities. These advanced care facilities are known as Trauma Centers.

Several hospitals in the Hillsborough County area offer trauma center care to the most at-risk patients.

If you or a loved one are ever seriously injured in an accident, our list of Hillsborough area Trauma Centers may help you figure out where you or a family member will be taken.

What Types of Patients Are Taken to Tampa Trauma Centers?

Trauma centers handle the most severely injured patients to give them the best chance at survival. This usually includes the victims of serious blunt or penetrating trauma.

This would include gunshot wound victims, stabbing victims, and those in need of immediate care after suffering a traumatic injury in a major car accident. Severe burn victims are also commonly admitted to trauma centers.

Trauma Centers are certified by The Florida Department of Health to make sure they offer the most advanced care available. A hospital with a Level I trauma center rating is considered the most qualified to handle the worst injuries. In Florida, there are also Level II Trauma Centers and Pediatric Trauma Centers.

Trauma centers are usually an extension of a hospital’s emergency department. They will have specialized surgeons able to handle the most critical cases. Highly qualified nurses will be on hand to administer care. Trauma centers will also have more advanced equipment than normal hospitals and emergency rooms.
