What Needs To Be Updated After Divorce?

In 2012, the Florida legislature enacted Florida Statute 732.703, a family law, which affects a former spouse's right to claim assets in the estate, insurance proceeds, or obtain distributions as a beneficiary as to the other former spouse. In simpler terms, the statute in effect dis-inherits former spouses from each other’s probate estate, insurance, and assets after a divorce. However, despite this provision, it is always important after a divorce to update your will and trust, as well as any beneficiary designations on your post-divorce assets and insurance.
