Two People Killed In Crash on I-75 Near Tampa

Robert Sparks Attorneys

A three-car pileup on the northbound side of Interstate 75 near Fletcher Avenue claimed the lives of two people on Tuesday, November 8.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash was caused when the right rear tire of a 2009 Land Rover blew out, causing the driver to lose control of their vehicle. As the vehicle spun out of control, it crashed into a 2006 Chevrolet TK truck one lane over, causing it to overturn. Officials have not yet released information about what cause the tire to blow.

The driver of the truck was taken to Tampa General Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. Both passengers in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The Land Rover also crashed into a 2015 Acura, though neither the driver nor passenger of that vehicle were injured in the collision.

One of the vehicles involved in the collision was carrying a large number of nails that scattered across the highway and needed to be cleaned up before any lanes could be reopened. The cleanup was reportedly finished approximately five hours after the crash.

Tire blowouts are responsible for about 11,000 crashes in the United States every year according to the United States Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
