Two New Tampa Area Sinkhols After Tropical Storm Andrea

Two new sinkholes opened in Hillsborough County after Tropical Storm Andrea passed through last week. Employees noticed large cracks at a Bob Evans restaurant near Interstate 4 in Seffner over the weekend. The restaurant is within 5 miles of the sinkhole that took the life of Jeffrey Bush earlier this year.

A second Hillsborough County sinkhole opened up on West Jean Street in Tampa on Sunday. The news reports regarding this sinkhole indicate that the family had a sinkhole repaired in their backyard only a week ago.

Growing up in Florida, I don't remember having to worry about sinkholes as part of the aftermath of storms. The real danger was the hurricanes, floods, and wind that came from tropical weather, not the changes taking place underground.
