Is Personal Injury Protection Insurance (PIP) dead in Florida? The answer may be further off than initially expected. According to a Claims Journal article, Senator David Simmons, sponsor of Senate Bill 7152, postponed the vote on the bill late last week. The bill would move Florida away from PIP coverage to a liability based bodily injury form of insurance. Bodily injury (BI) insurance is already in place in Florida, but it is supplemented by PIP, commonly referred to as "no fault" insurance.
The idea of moving from a system where both PIP and BI are in place for accident cases, to one where victims are compensated solely through bodily injury coverage has been discussed as an option.
