The Lakeland Ledger recently had an article describing another family's dealings with a sinkhole. In this case, the Vega family awoke to find a sinkhole under their mobile home. All of the residents escaped the home unharmed, but the family was left with no place to go. The sinkhole measured 14 feet long, 15 feet wide, and 17 feet deep, but surprisingly, did not swallow the home. Polk County officials nonetheless have listed the home as dangerous and not allowed the Vega family back in to retrieve any of their items.
