Yesterday, Citizens Insurance named a new President. Barry Gilway, formerly of Mattei Insurance Services and Zurich North America, replaces Tom Grady at the head of Florida's so-called "insurer of last resort". The vote to approve Gilway was unanimous. The Tampa Bay Times article describing the hire views the move by Citizens as an affront to Governor Rick Scott.
It is hard to tell what this move means for homeowners with sinkhole or other property claims, if anything. Depopulating Citizens has been a major initiative of Governor Scott, and former President Grady was seen as a close ally of the Governor.
